I want to take just a moment to tell you that today is the Bloggers Unite for Human Rights event. All over the world bloggers are posting the message that all humans regardless of race, gender, religion, etc… deserve to be treated humanely. I know human rights doesn’t have much to do with home decor but I think it’s important to be a part of this effort and hope you will support me in cause. All over the world countless people are subject to unspeakable abuse, not just by individuals but also at the hands their own country. We cannot continue to reward these countries with money, international events and recognition while turning a blind eye to the indignities they inflict on their own people. What is happening now in Myanmar is heartbreaking. How can a government put more value on the strength their military over that of the hunger, pain and suffering of their own people? Unfortunately, prior to this storm life was no better for the Myanmar people. Human trafficking of women and children to Thailand to work as sex workers was and is a common practice. Hopefully with continued pressure from the U.N. their government will let the world give them the aid they so desperatey need. But after we have long forgotten about this storm Myanmar’s problems will continue to grow. That is why it is so important to have events like this so we to continue to let people know that not everyone is awarded the rights that we as free nations take for granted. Eventually, Myanmar has to let the world help it’s people and when that happens one of the first organizations to help will be the International Red Cross. If you would like to help, please go their website to find out how you can donate. Thank you.
I wish I had known about this on the day it was happening
