Unusually Awesome Furniture.

Despite the suppression of free speech in communist Cuba, the visual art community is thriving. PBS’s Frontline features some of the artist, who with their unconventional style, are putting Cuba front and center in the international art market. Known as Los Carpinteros (”The Carpenters”), these Cuban artists are gaining the art world’s attention perhaps due in part, to their country’s focus on [...]

Matt takes reclaimed and found objects and gives them a newly refined life. To learn more about Matt and the Refined Sugar Studio’s process click here.

Well just  2 more days left of ICFF here in New York but for this writer Sunday marked the end of a fantastic and inspiring furniture fair. The Jacob Javitts Conference Center was packed yesterday as designers from all over the world gathered to see and be seen.

We spotted more than a few design stars [...]

Altelier BLINK.

The lovely ladies of Atelier BLINK, Emilie Lecouturier and Celine Poncelet debuted some of their latest designs at ICFF 2008.
This Rendez-Vous wallpaper is attractive yes, but look a little closer and you can see how it really earned it’s name. The  Rendez-Vous shows couples in various stages of their own hmm… let’s call it trysts. [...]

The Blaue Blume Tea Set.

They take tea pretty seriously in England so it’s refreshing to see British designer Tina Tsang  of Undergrowth Design add a bit of fun to the ritual. This milk jar is just one of the pieces in the Blaue Blume tea set she presented at ICFF 2008 this weekend.

ICFF 2008 Update.

Well the International Contemporary Furniture Fair is off to a brilliant start. I’ve seen so many inspiring and innovative designs, I am completely overstimulated! However I hate to neglect my faithful readers even for my own selfish pleasure so please excuse the brevity but I wanted to show you just a few items I really [...]

The LoJo.

The LoJo is just one of the newfangled products that caught my eye yesterday. They call it the modern day answer to the old and tired beanbag. Essentially a big round pillow, when you unzip the top portion it suddenly it becomes a comfortable lounge chair. Perfect for watching movies, playing video games or enjoying [...]

War is Hell.

The War Bowl by design house Mosely meets Wilcox brings back a bit of nostalgia for young boys in their own battle of Waterloo. A melted mix of French and British soldiers come together as one to form an eclectic war bowl that is so interesting you won’t want to put anything in it. Growing up my [...]

The Bean Pod.

This is a great idea for apartment dwellers who love fresh herbs but don’t have the space to grow them in. The Bean Pod adheres to your window using a strong suction cup so all you need is a flat glass surface, a little daily watering and in a couple weeks you’ll be enjoying your own fresh herbs. The Pod [...]

I want to take just a moment to tell you that today is the Bloggers Unite for Human Rights event. All over the world bloggers are posting the message that all humans regardless of race, gender, religion, etc… deserve to be treated humanely. I know human rights doesn’t have much to do with home decor [...]

Coffin Coffee Table

When we featured the Coffin Couch we thought we had seen the last of afterlife furniture however design student Charles Constantine decided to continue the trend with his latest design the Coffee Table Casket. On display as part of last week’s Bklyn Designs show, the Casket is not only meant to hold your household belongings but when the day [...]

X-Rated Park Planters.

At first glance these planters resemble a simple and serene park scene but if you look a little closer there’s more going on here than meets the eye. Designer Tristan Zimmermann was inspired by the art of bonsai when he created his Park Planters but it seems as if the park he modeled his works on [...]
