This rug designed by the NEL group is shaped like the country of IRAQ. The group’s website talks about the detachment to the images we see everyday on the news, comparing it to a board game. Representing the conflict happening in that country are the tiny felt soldiers scattered in various stages of battle across the rug. It reminds one of a model village with it’s miniature figures however int his case it is quite clear the mission these little soldiers are on. The reality of war is hard to grasp from so far away, perhaps the rug will help people to reflect on the conflict happening in Iraq.

I like this rug and the motivation behind its creation. However, I am wondering this: Do the soldiers scream out when you tread upon them? And do they hurt your feet?
