Banksy’s Spooky Pet Store

Banksy rolls in just in time for Halloween with his first New York City show. The exhibit is called a Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill and is a faux pet shop that includes a menagerie of animated creations.

Real stuffed leopards and coquettish bunnies getting ready for a night on the town make up just part of the collection. referring to one of his pieces, two chicken nuggets drinking barbecue sauce, Banksy says:

“New Yorkers don’t care about art, they care about pets. So I’m exhibiting them instead. I wanted to make art that questioned our relationship with animals and the ethics and sustainability of factory farming, but it ended up as chicken nuggets singing. I took all the money I made exploiting an animal in my last show and used it to fund a new show about the exploitation of animals. If its art and you can see it from the street, I guess it could still be considered street art.”

Fans of Banksy’s graffiti art will find it missing from this show but don’t worry we’re sure the exhibit will contain an essence of Banksy’s social angst. The exhibit is on the down-low for now so best to see it now before word spreads. The “Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill” is located at 89 West 7th avenue between East 4th and Bleeker Street and will run till Halloween.
