I would argue that there is nothing creepier than a rug that looks like your neighbor took a face plant from the Empire State Building. Even though it’s so very obvious the rug is not real, it looks like a cousin of the blow-up doll, with it’s creepy slack jawed stare, it’s still a little unsettling. I rather like the windblown look of the hair, as I imagine that’s exactly how mine would look had a just taken a colossal nose dive.

Human BookShelf

I’m sorry I’m just not one of those people who is comfortable with the naked human body, so for me this has to be the creepiest and most disturbing of any of these pieces! Not to mention my obsessive/compulsive love of symmetry is set off balance by its many dips and crevices. Also, you’d want to pay particular attention when grabbing a book. The title, Moby Dick, could prove to be just that.

Dismembered Baby Doll Coat Rack

Our first creepy item comes in the form of a little DIY project. Looking for a way to recycle all of those broken baby doll parts you have hanging around the house? Screw the appendages into a wooden board and voila! You’ve put those tiny hands (and legs) to work.

A Bench with Arms Holding a Large Tumor

What can one say about the Surrealism chair by David Pompa? I’m sure we could have a lengthy conversation about the designer’s intent and how it makes us feel, but less just cut to the chase, it’s fucking creepy! I mean I’m not sure what repulses me the most; the arms belonging to uh, no one, jutting from the side of the chair or said arms fondness of, what looks to me like a large tumor. I can only assume this chair belongs to descendants of your favorite appendage and mine , Thing from the Adams Family.

Winter always me think of warm, cozy interiors. On a recent trip to Aspen, Colorado I saw so many examples of modern ski lodge decor. Big pieces, fur, animal antlers and lots and lots of wood! Finally a compromise between ski cabin coziness and clean, sleek NYC apartments. I now see, there is no need to long for both, I can easily marry city sophistication with chic woodsy lifestyle! Above is the lobby of the Sky Hotel, what was formerly the Aspen Club Lodge.

I used to work there as a kid and noticed right away, the inner structure remained exactly the same, the decor however, couldn’t be more different. Think-mountain cabin meets modern chic. Walking into the lobby the first thing you notice are the huge leather chairs trimmed with fur (mink?) and white side chairs, accented beautifully with handcrafted wood tables. Elegantly appointed, the hotel offers impressive amenities to it’s patrons. My friend and I graciously enjoyed the hot cider and oatmeal cookies available in the lobby during the ski day.

Inside the lodge’s, Sky Lounge, low lying sectional sofas rest near a blazing fireplace. The large windows look out to a steaming heated pool and the looming majesty of Aspen Mountain – the perfect apres ski spot- enough said. This well-appointed mountain lodge inspired me to gather a few examples of what Modern Winter chic:

No mountain home is complete without the head of some unfortunate animal prominently displayed over a it’s fireplace. I snapped this unlucky fellow at Kemo Sabe, a popular upscale leather goods store in Aspen, Colorado.

If you like the style but not the carnage, you might want to try ‘going faux’. Cardboard Deer Antlers are a friendlier way to replicate this style. You get a modern outdoorsy feel without, the cold accusatory stare of a mounted animal. Courtesy of Cardboard Safari

Any mountain lodge worth it’s weight, has a huge roaring fireplace. I prefer a more sophisticated, contemporary hearth like this one. And don’t forget a fire pit! Winter dwellers love to stand around a warm fire in the outdoors. There’s nothing better than gathering underneath the stars recounting the day’s winter activities.

Ever thought you were losing your mind? The designer takes this concept quite literally. The figurines are made of ceramic and resin.

I feel like I have to write something clever and compelling here, but I have nothing. Alright, alright, how ’bout, ‘her head was really on the chopping block’? No, not working for ya? I have a question. Would this be considered a set?

She seems awfully melancholy for someone who’s holding their guts in their hands. But I suppose once you’ve made the commitment, there’s probably nothing left to feel bad about.

This one kind makes me think of this time I was riding my bike and I accidentally rode right into a string that was marking two fence posts. I wasn’t decapitated but I had a red mark across my neck for two weeks. I told the kids at school I had almost been decapitated. I remember hearing audible gasps, so I never fessed up. But, hey I could have been decapitated!

An MUL fan from Italy wrote us regarding a recent discovery. He stumbled upon Rocket Designs while shopping in his hometown of Milan. We liked it so much, we promised to share it with MUL readers. Check out a few of the music inspired pieces from Rocket Designs. And thanks so much to Giulio for the tasty tip.

The Coat Track from Rocket Designs features a ‘mix’ of wall graphics and hardware to create a 3D effect for your wall. We want one for our wall! Don’t see any distribution for them in the USA but we’re sure that’s only temporary. The products are so cool and funky, we’re optimistic you’ll see them in the States very soon!

The Wine Jack would make a superb gift for aspiring DJ/wine enthusiast! Designed so the wine bottles becomes part of the audio jack. Totally whack, Jack!

‘Yeeeeeeaaaaaah, booooooyyyyyeeeee’! Remember cassette decks? We do! Giving props to an 80′s icon, the Extended Plane not only provides you with a cozy place to rest your shades, but also gives an extra 15 minutes of fame to the good old cassette tape. RIP cassettes.

“Don’t, don’t, don’t believe the hype!” The nifty Disc Jockey Tray makes us want to start scratchin’. Also provides a a convenient work place for us to pound out our rap lyrics.

Have a future rock star in your family? We do! Our ‘Hannah Montana wanna be’ could gaze for hours into The MirRock. So why don’t we feel like taking a bite out of the Mozzarella Chair by Tatsuo Yamamoto?

They call it the Cell Chair from Automare but it kinda reminds us of a bunch of footballs glued together. Anyone else?

Enjoying the warm glow of The Bright Woods’ Collections ‘Illuminated Chair’ from Giancarlo Zema

Wonder if they make a ‘Deviled’ version of the Egg Chair from Mod Prop?

We get it. Hair as a design resource, groovy. We dated a Heavy Metal dude once with really long hair. Kinda skeeved us out. We broke up with him because of it. Shallow we know, but there’s just something creepy about constantly picking your boyfriend’s hair off you. The designer of these coiffed creations Dejano Kabiljo of Kabiljo Inc., designed the PRETTYPRETTY Collection to ‘regulate the erotic allure that surrounds us’. If your ‘erotic allure’ is dating a dude with long hair these chairs may be for you. But as for us, we feel the same way about these chairs as we did about that guy. We think they’re cool but we don’t want to date them.

This chair has a Dolly Parton circa 1970′s vibe we dig. Definitely Dolly. There’s a busty blond with a touch of sass coming from this chair. If a chair were a spunky girlfriend this would be the one you’d want in your corner. Just like 9 to 5.

More pics after the jump…

Fun? Totally. Practical? Maybe. In the right beauty salon/bar, hellooo… BEAUTY BAR NYC! This bar table really reminds us of “Hedwig and the Angry Itch”. Seen it? No?! Go out right now and rent this movie. It makes you want to go out and by yourself a big old blond ‘Housewives of Atlanta’ wig.

LOVE the Geisha Pouf! It’s got us turning Japanese (we really think so). Keeping every single hair in place is going to be a challenge, must begin geisha training now.
