This is a great idea for apartment dwellers who love fresh herbs but don’t have the space to grow them in. The Bean Pod adheres to your window using a strong suction cup so all you need is a flat glass surface, a little daily watering and in a couple weeks you’ll be enjoying your own fresh herbs. The Pod comes with everything you need to get started: a soil pod that expands into enough soil needed to grow your herb, seeds, complete instructions and of course, the Bean Pod with suction cup. After the herbs are gone, use it again to grow even more!
I want to take just a moment to tell you that today is the Bloggers Unite for Human Rights event. All over the world bloggers are posting the message that all humans regardless of race, gender, religion, etc… deserve to be treated humanely. I know human rights doesn’t have much to do with home decor but I think it’s important to be a part of this effort and hope you will support me in cause. All over the world countless people are subject to unspeakable abuse, not just by individuals but also at the hands their own country. We cannot continue to reward these countries with money, international events and recognition while turning a blind eye to the indignities they inflict on their own people. What is happening now in Myanmar is heartbreaking. How can a government put more value on the strength their military over that of the hunger, pain and suffering of their own people? Unfortunately, prior to this storm life was no better for the Myanmar people. Human trafficking of women and children to Thailand to work as sex workers was and is a common practice. Hopefully with continued pressure from the U.N. their government will let the world give them the aid they so desperatey need. But after we have long forgotten about this storm Myanmar’s problems will continue to grow. That is why it is so important to have events like this so we to continue to let people know that not everyone is awarded the rights that we as free nations take for granted. Eventually, Myanmar has to let the world help it’s people and when that happens one of the first organizations to help will be the International Red Cross. If you would like to help, please go their website to find out how you can donate. Thank you.

When we featured the Coffin Couch we thought we had seen the last of afterlife furniture however design student Charles Constantine decided to continue the trend with his latest design the Coffee Table Casket. On display as part of last week’s Bklyn Designs show, the Casket is not only meant to hold your household belongings but when the day comes it can also be a final home for you.

At first glance these planters resemble a simple and serene park scene but if you look a little closer there’s more going on here than meets the eye. Designer Tristan Zimmermann was inspired by the art of bonsai when he created his Park Planters but it seems as if the park he modeled his works on may have been a bit more precocious than most of the parks I frequent!

If you really love New York perhaps you should consider purchasing this piece of NYC kitsch. For a mere £1500.- U.K. online store Mixko Boutique will send to you this life size version of an I love NY coffee cup. It’s a versatile piece of furniture, according to the website, it can be used as a table or a chair. It is apparently also enjoyed by the feline set.

This weekend is also the start of the Meatpacking District Design Conference. The conference features designer exhibits, lectures and lots of parties! Come down and enjoy one of New York’s most inspiring neighborhoods. For more information go to the MPDD website.

One of the items I am looking forward to seeing at this year’s ICFF is the Celebrity Lamp from online store Deeply Madly Living. We have happily featured Deeply Madly Living before (you may recall the Erotika Chair) and the Celebrity Lamp certainly falls in line with the other innovative designs they sell. I love the unique use of aviator glasses as a shade! When the lamp is on, the shade becomes translucent and creates a stunning 360° visual effect. When the Celebrity Lamp is off it becomes a trig modern art piece. And check out the cool on/off switch, it’s actually the temple piece from one of the aviator frames. Clever! I wonder what celebrity they had in mind when designing the lamp, perhaps aviator lover Lindsay Lohan?

The weather hasn’t exactly been warm in NYC this week and I am finding myself yearning for those lazy summer days. One of my favorite summer activities has always been to barbecue however city living isn’t exactly conducive to cooking outdoors. Friends have told me if you’re smooth about it and you can find a park that isn’t too crowded you can get away with a small BBQ. I’m not talking about setting up a smoker in Central Park mind you, nope NYC has plenty of small parks that would work for BBQ-ing on the down-low. Shopping around for a small BBQ has been a chore. They are either too big, too awkward or too heavy. But I think I found a small BBQ that might work for my needs. It’s called the Briefcase BBQ and well, it’s just that. A BBQ that folds flat into it’s own briefcase. I know it maybe a little tacky but hey the Briefcase BBQ is small, easy to carry and should I get busted by the man, easy to break down. I wonder how durable it is but as long as it holds a burger or two I am good to go. Now if the weather would just cooperate.
