Your Environmentally Friendly Lifestyle Starts With Sustainability
We feel so much pressure to do the “right thing” these days: eat the right foods, buy the right products, build the right thing. I spend so much time researching the socially responsible way to live, I sometimes feel like I’m missing out on the simple joys of living! If you’re struggling with making an environmentally friendly home for your family, the best place to start is to buy products that are sustainable.
1. the ability to be sustained, supported, upheld or confirmed.
2. Environmental Science. the quality of not being harmful to the environment or depleting natural resources, and thereby supporting long-term ecological balance.
Don’t let today’s eco-friendly buzzwords confuse you. Living sustainably simply means buying/using/building with products that cause no long-term effects on the environment.
For instance, you hear the words reuse/recycle a lot on this blog, (ok it’s our mantra) this simply means instead of throwing things away, look for others ways to use the resources. A good example of this is buying things from thrift stores instead of purchasing brand new. By using something that is no longer valuable to someone else you’re not only keeping it out of landfills, you’re also not utilizing the resources needed to make a new product.
Little things make a big difference. Start small and build on what you learn. Don’t let the pressure of making perfect choices overwhelm you; do what you can each day to make the world a better place.
Ready to begin? I’ve partnered with the furniture store, Arhaus, to develop a few simple steps to get you started towards a more sustainable lifestyle. Arhaus’ commitment to the earth’s resources is impressive. They work directly with skilled artisans and responsible manufacturers to create unique, functional pieces from recycled natural resources.
